Adoption and Mental Illness

Does adoption pose psychological risks? University of Minnesota researchers revisited this controversial issue recently and found that common DSM-IV childhood disorders are more prevalent in adoptees than nonadoptees.1 They also found that adoptees are more likely to have contact with mental health professionals.

Purposeful parenting strives to build strong, positive, functional families with children of all ages. The month of July celebrates this goal. While all parenting styles are different, the goal of purposeful parenting is to build a child's self-esteem to the point where the world can not hurt them. Purposeful parenting requires commitment, hardwork and dedication to the goal of ushering into the world productive adults.
